Principal's message.
Mount Evelyn Primary School - ‘Learning for Life'
Mount Evelyn Primary School prides itself on providing a first class education for all. With the principle of integrity at our core, we see honesty, trust, respect, fairness and kindness as critical to children's success and to our success as a school.
The important values of respect, caring and responsibility (for self and others) are central to our school. With these core values we seek to create a sustainable school climate where excellence is promoted, enjoyment of school life is highly valued and there is a deep sense of community and of belonging.
Our education programs are designed to meet the needs of every individual; indeed we seek to personalise student learning wherever possible. Just as in our community, we acknowledge that different patients will need different treatment in health care, so we as a school acknowledge that different children will need individualised learning to maximise learning progress.
To this end, assessment of student interests and their specific learning needs are formally undertaken prior to the planning of each sequence of student learning. We use the term ‘Assessment FOR Learning' to place the emphasis where it needs to be. Of course ‘Assessment of Learning' is still undertaken and provides us with the capacity to report meaningfully to parents; and provides the benchmark data monitored to ensure that as a school, we are living up to our high expectations in terms of student learning outcomes.
Our highly qualified teaching staff undertakes continuous professional learning in order to ensure that they are at the edge of current educational research and are able to effectively use acknowledged ‘best practice' in learning and teaching methodologies.
Our school's willingness to challenge historical practice is nowhere more evident than in the early years, where with the support of on-going action-research and specialist consultancy, we seek to reflect modern ground-breaking research into learning based upon extensive early childhood development research, as well as the essential learning framework. We refer to this approach as Developmental Curriculum.
